ABOUT NORM Norm Yip was born and raised in Canada by Chinese parents. He received his B. of Arts degree (cum laude) in 1984 at the University of Saskatchewan and his B. of Architecture degree in 1989 at the University of Toronto. In 1994, he moved to Hong Kong where he worked as a project architect for Wong & Tai Associates Ltd and RTKL International Ltd before pursuing his interest in art and photography. In 1999, he co-founded the organization art collective Meli-Melo Artists Alliance (MMAA), to which he curated numerous art exhibitions with artists from Canada, Thailand and Hong Kong. Norm has taught photography courses at Open University (HK) in 2006 and has been a guest lecturer at Hong Kong Art School in 2007. Eventually in 2001, he formed Norm Yip Photography and set up Studio 8 -- a semi-public photographic and art space located in the heart of Sheung Wan -- where he hosted private and selected exhibitions. Since then, he has exhibited in all three mediums of photography, acrylic painting and graphite. As a photographer, Norm's work has appeared in HK Magazine, WHERE, Global Investor and American Express' Centurion magazine. Celebrities he has photographed include Zhang Yimou, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Destiny's Child and Korean pop-star Rain. To many, Norm is recognized for his fine art photographs of beautiful and sensuous Asian males. His work has been featured in 2Blue and Dreamboys 2, both special edition of Blue magazine, known for it’s excellence in fine art male photography. In 2005, Norm created Studio 8 HK Publishing and published The Asian Male – 1.AM – a photography book featuring nude and semi-nude images of Asian men taken over a period of five years from 2000-2005. The Asian Male – 2.AM is norm's follow-up photography book to 1.AM, a continuation of his work and imagery of Asian men.

Performance by Vonda Shepard, Sister 2 Sister, MDO and Leah Haywood. Destiny's Child was also present, but didn't perform unfortunately as Byonce was ill at the time. Everyone at Sony was great which made the photographic event even more enjoyable. April 2001 Square Peg Theatre invites me to photograph photographs of their latest one-man show production 'The Road to Heaven', directed by Avital Manor-Peleg starring Peter Jordon. March 2001 Global Investor, a UK-based subscription magazine hires me to photograph Mr. Tian Ren Can, CEO of Fortis Asia Investments. February 2001 Sony Music invites me to photograph Jennifer Lopez for her Asia media event and press conference. November 2001 Death of my father at age 66. Very traumatic and sad time in my life and the effects of this will remain imbedded in my mind. I stay in Canada for nearly 2 months to help my mother through the tragedy. October 2000 Sony Music hires me to photograph Ricky Martin in concert and at the press conference in Hong Kong.
