LAVA BASALT

This is a more geometric and planar set of paintings that were completed in 2010. I was in my original studio in Chai Wan was was feeling very anxious to put something onto canvas. I believe I was looking for some kind of structure in my life at the time, and needed to calm my mind with work that would pull me away from my normal work. It was liberating and very exciting to see the pieces form, much like painting by numbers. Again, there is a sense of meditation in the work from the artist point of view. I don’t necessarily feel very attached to these artworks, as they are somewhat detached from a direct emotional feeling. I don’t think I wanted to ‘think’ while I was painting, so this was the perfect escape.
