Early Works
Shown here are some of the first paintings I made in the years following my departure from architecture. I did not invest a great deal of mental energy into anything conceptual at this stage — though I was already aware of my natural inclination toward abstraction and colour.
There were times, however, when painting became my saviour. It pulled me out of depression and negative thinking — something I am not fearful of revealing. A lack of confidence in my own abilities as a photographer and artist had taken a considerable toll, compounded by financial difficulties that made it hard to survive comfortably.
In many ways, the colour and vibrancy of these early works became a counterfoil to my internal despair. They gave me hope — a promise of a better way, and a better world for me to inhabit.
