Sanctioned Khaos, 2019
Acrylic on canvas, 138 x 91cm

Hong Kong, November 10, 2019. As the city entered it’s 22nd consecutive week of protests, it was heartbreaking with the death of a young university student Chow Tsz-lok, only 22 years of age. I was in silent prayer last night after learning earlier that he was on support system. He is now let go of the human circumstances that lead to his departure. Now I sense the city and her people will be in more emotional turmoil than ever before. The government introduced a ban of wearing face masks at any assembly weeks prior, which only incited the protestors more, a sanctioned move using a rarely enforced law that was first introduced in 1922 in the event of an emergency. Chaos prevails in this vibrant and troubled city.
