Coming of Age

Photographing Ethan was an interesting experience for me because of his need to be expressive in front of the camera, something that I would be extremely uncomfortable with as an adult that has not fully mastered the skill myself. When it came to reviewing the photographs, these three stood out from the rest. His facial expressions and eye contact was strong enough to convince me of a youthful yet rebellious nature of defiance and uncertainty. Was this a front for something else, or could it be the shift and changes one experiences when transitioning from boy to man — a coming of age? I decided to sub-title the triptych as follows from left to right: L) I don’t trust you, M) Standing my ground, and R) Defending my territory.
